The .75kw servos are overkill and can snap a 1/2" carbide end mill or move my head on the mill(250+lbs) without issue.

I like servos better than steppers. Less chance of losing steps as using servos with an encoder on the motor will keep track of lost steps and try to compensate. Watch ebay for drive amps and motors.
